What Is OWCP and Who Does It Cover?

The Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP) is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor and provides benefits to federal civilian employees who are injured or become ill as a result of their job. It is governed by the Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA).

OWCP covers a wide range of work-related conditions including back and neck injuries, shoulder and joint injuries, repetitive stress injuries, slip and fall accidents, and the aggravation of pre-existing conditions caused by your federal duties. OWCP also covers massage therapy when medically necessary and prescribed as part of your treatment plan.

If your claim has been accepted by OWCP, you are entitled to chiropractic treatment at no cost to you. Ascension Chiropractic bills the Department of Labor directly using your case number — you will never receive a bill.

How OWCP Billing Works at Ascension Chiropractic

We make the billing process as simple as possible for you. Here's what to expect:

Step 1: Report your injury.

As soon as possible after your injury, report it to your supervisor and file your claim with OWCP — Form CA-1 for traumatic injuries or Form CA-2 for conditions that developed over time.

Step 2: Obtain your OWCP case number.

Once your claim is accepted by the Department of Labor, you will receive a case number. Bring this to your first appointment.

Step 3: We bill OWCP directly.

Ascension Chiropractic bills the Department of Labor directly using your case number. You will not receive a bill.

Step 4: We handle your CA-17 forms.

If your injury requires modified or limited duty, Dr. Bess will complete the OWCP Form CA-17 Duty Status Report accurately and promptly throughout your treatment.

Not sure if your claim has been accepted yet? Call us at (571) 249-3634 and we will help guide you through the process.

Call Us With Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Ascension Chiropractic in Falls Church, VA accepts OWCP and bills the Department of Labor directly for federal employees with accepted claims. You pay nothing out of pocket — no copays, no deductibles, and no bills sent to you. We also accept OWCP for massage therapy when medically necessary as part of your treatment plan.

Generally, no referral is required to see a chiropractor under OWCP. However, your claim must be accepted and you should have your OWCP case number before beginning treatment. If your claim is still pending, call our office at (571) 249-3634 and we can discuss your options.

Form CA-17 is the OWCP Duty Status Report that documents your ability to work during treatment. It communicates to your agency whether you can return to full duty, modified duty, or need to remain off work. Dr. Bess is experienced in completing this form accurately and promptly — we understand that timely documentation directly affects your benefits.

We treat a wide range of work-related conditions under OWCP including back and neck injuries, shoulder and joint pain, sciatica, repetitive stress injuries, and slip and fall injuries. We also provide massage therapy, dry needling, and cupping therapy when medically necessary as part of your treatment plan.

Yes. OWCP covers the aggravation or recurrence of pre-existing conditions caused or worsened by your federal employment. Many federal employees don't realize this is covered and never file a claim. If your job has made an existing condition worse, it is worth filing — these cases are treated the same as new work-related injuries.

Getting started is simple. Report your injury to your supervisor and file your OWCP claim using Form CA-1 (traumatic injury) or Form CA-2 (occupational disease). Once your claim is accepted and you have your OWCP case number, call us at (571) 249-3634 or book online at ascensionchirova.com. We will take it from there — including all billing and CA-17 documentation.
